When we collaborate, babies thrive and parents are much more likely to meet their feeding goals. By working together, parents don’t just have access to evidence-based information-they feel empowered, supported and more likely to feel comfortable with their feeding decisions.
When you refer your patients to The Right Latch, they will receive exceptional care from Kate, a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. With her extensive background in lactation and infant feeding, Kate is equipped to support families throughout their entire feeding journey—from prenatal education to the weaning process. Her approach emphasizes feeding success, along with infant care and infant safety, ensuring parents feel confident during this essential time. Additionally, as part of her commitment to safety, she is a Certified Passenger Safety Technician and offers complimentary car seat checks, on request, with every in-home visit, providing peace of mind for parents both inside and outside the home.
During a consultation, feeding behaviors, milk supply, and the baby’s milk transfer skills are closely observed. Infant weight is recorded at each visit and plotted on the WHO growth chart for ongoing monitoring. When necessary, weighted feeds are conducted using a professional pediatric scale (Tanita BD-815), which provides accuracy up to 2g. A comprehensive care plan, including the growth chart and tailored recommendations, will be e-faxed to the baby’s primary care provider.
Maternal mental health and breast health is a priority. Edinburgh postnatal depression scale is offered to all mothers. Mother’s PCP, OBGYN/Midwife will be e-faxed a care plan with recommendations for breast complications.
For healthcare professionals, a flyer is available for download and print for use in your office. If you would like to receive updates on the latest lactation research, are interested in an In-Service on a specific lactation topic, or wish to host a breastfeeding class or support group in your office after hours, please reach out. Additionally, we can provide breastfeeding fact sheets and other resources to support your practice. To get in touch, please email kate@therightlatch.com.
